You're Invited: Screening of the Ukrainian Documentary People of Steel
Please join Leleka Foundation for a special screening of the Ukrainian documentary People of Steel.
The event will also feature a live Q&A and musical performance by Serhii Fomenko, the film’s director and frontman of the renowned Ukrainian band Mandry.
People of Steel documents the heroic defense of Mariupol in the spring of 2022, the harrowing fate of Ukrainian soldiers taken as prisoners of war, and the relentless efforts to secure their release from Russian captivity. The film blends powerful live footage with deeply moving interviews with the soldiers and their families.
“The main goal of the film is to ensure that those who are in captivity now will eventually be released and won’t be forgotten by the media,”
— Serhii Fomenko
For Leleka Foundation, it is vital to share first-hand accounts of Ukraine’s courageous resistance to Russia’s genocidal aggression and to spotlight the plight of Ukrainian POWs—many of whom face mistreatment or worse.
We especially invite English-speaking audiences to attend this event. The film is narrated in English, with English subtitles for Ukrainian dialogue. The Q&A will also be conducted in English.
The film’s director, Serhii Fomenko, is not only a renowned musician and frontman of the Ukrainian band Mandry, but also a dedicated volunteer in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Currently touring the U.S., Serhii will join us in person for a post-screening Q&A session, sharing insights about the film and the stories behind it.
To close the evening, Serhii will perform a special live set, bringing his signature voice and spirit of Ukraine to the stage.
All ticket and merchandise sales will benefit Leleka Foundation, a U.S.-based nonprofit providing life-saving first aid supplies and equipment to frontline medics in Ukraine.
