The first Ukrainian theater in California, "Wandering Stars," continues its second season with the play "BIRD ON THE ROOF" by contemporary Ukrainian playwright Oleg Mykhailov.

The play was written in 2023.

It’s a drama told through monologues that the main character records on a video camera. She’s almost fourteen years old. Her city is destroyed and occupied. She has been separated from her mother, taken to a foreign country where they constantly remind her, “Sweetheart, you’ve always been Russian; you just forgot.” All she has left is the hope that her mom will see the video and a piece of Ukraine in her heart.

The play makes you think about the fate of children kidnapped during the war and how important it is for each of us to do everything we can to bring them home.

The role of the main character is played by Diana Yavorska.

Directed by Olena Bilyak.

We perform in Ukrainian with English subtitles.

Children under 15 can attend the performance only when accompanied by adults, who will determine if the theme may be too heavy for their child.

The theater thanks the nonprofit organization "Community," the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church parish, and Father Oleg Kepeshchuk for their support and collaboration.

All proceeds from the performance will be used to help Ukraine, and the theater team works on a voluntary basis. Tickets can be purchased through the link below.
