"Children In The Fire" Movie Screening

Film Screening followed with Q&A by the Director: Children in the Fire
Join us on January 17 in Carlsbad City Library for a special screening of Children in the Fire, a powerful and deeply human documentary from Academy Award - nominated director Evgeny Afineevsky (Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom).
Since launching its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has systematically targeted the country’s future by targeting its children - through abductions, forced adoptions, captivity, and violent attacks on civilian life.
Blending live-action footage with striking animation from Ukrainian artists, the film follows eight resilient children - athletes, performers, and future public servants - as they pursue their dreams across international borders while carrying the weight of war. Their journeys form a collective war diary: unflinching in its truth, yet filled with courage, dignity, and hope.
Children in the Fire is more than a documentary - it is a testament to the strength of children who have witnessed the worst of humanity and still embody the promise of a peaceful, nonviolent future. This screening is an opportunity to bear witness, to learn, and to stand in solidarity with Ukraine’s children. Many of your questions about this war or ongoing peace negotiations will be answered.
This film screening is hosted by the House of Ukraine and Shield of Freedom.
