We invite you to join the February meeting of the House of Ukraine Book Club, where we read works by Ukrainian authors and discuss our impressions of the books we've read with like-minded people.

In February, we're reading the iconic novel "Moscow Diary" by Ukrainian writer Yuri Andrukhovych.

The days of young Ukrainian poet Otto von F. are filled with endless partying with friends and uninhibited sexual escapades. That is, until one Saturday, a routine "goat driving" leads the poet to the depths of the Moscow subway, where he becomes a witness to a horrifying symposium of famous dead people. From that moment on, Otto von F. must not only save his own life from the KGB but also secure his ticket for the train back to his homeland of Kyiv.

"Moscow Diary" is one of the hallmark novels by renowned Ukrainian writer Yuri Andrukhovych, rich with both grotesque and surreal moments, as well as the realities of the time that accompanied the collapse of the communist empire. Written over thirty years ago in 1992, the novel continues to captivate with its brilliant style and carnival atmosphere, proving to be extraordinarily relevant now during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine and the ultimate collapse of the empire we are witnessing.
